MELINDA GOODHUE | ORANGE, MASSACHUSETTS

My practice is rooted in painting, primarily in oil and acrylic, but extends beyond the canvas into the realm of craft and object-making. My imagery often draws from polytheistic traditions, ancient gods and goddesses, and the archetypes they embody. I see these figures not only as distant relics of belief systems past, but as symbols that continue to speak to the complexity of the human condition. I hope to bridge the gap between myth and contemporary imagination, creating a dialogue between what is ancient and what is timeless.

I often seek to create surfaces with the appearance of age — layered textures, muted patinas, and weathered tones that mimic the feeling of sacred artifacts that have been handled, cherished, and worn down through centuries. This sense of an “artifact” is something I extend to the frames as well. Using a scrollsaw, I design and carve wooden frames inspired by the ornate intricacy of cuckoo clocks and the architectural presence of medieval triptychs. These frames are not simply supports for the painting, but extensions of the work itself, echoing the way art was once integrated into ritual and daily life.

In bringing together painting, sculpture, and craft, my aim is to create objects that feel like portals — windows into worlds where the surreal merges with the sacred. I want the work to carry an aura of mystery, as though it could have been unearthed from a forgotten temple or pulled from a dream. My hope is that viewers experience these pieces not just as images, but as artifacts imbued with a sense of history, reverence, and wonder.

Imaginative artwork invites us into worlds that defy easy explanation—where logic loosens its grip and wonder takes over. Melinda Goodhue, brings her signature blend of whimsy and curiosity to DELIRIUM in painting and assemblage, both of which she is skilled. Mindy creates surreal, mystically charged pieces that explore the place between innocence and dreams. Her work feels playful at first glance—and with a closer look, and it unravels into something deeper, darker, and beautifully strange. Mindy is a naturalist, a gardener and an experimenter, often working with woods, organic materials and layers of dark colors that make her brights truly shine.

Melinda Goodhue crafts visual worlds that feel both sacred and unsettling to us. In Ascension, a spectral figure rises from shadow, its expression caught between revelation and surrender—hair and spirit dissolving into luminous, wave-like motion. The work evokes some sort of transcendence through struggle, as if the figure is breaking through layers of consciousness.

In Fear Not, we see an assemblage of painting, feathers, and symbols into a hybrid talisman that blurs the line between relic and creature. The piece radiates a shamanic presence, suggesting transformation and protection—maybe a totem born of both myth or memory. Together, we feel that Mindy’s works in DELIRIUM pull viewers into a world where mysticism meets psychological depth, and where the boundary between human and divine release magic with each of her brushstrokes and ideas.

One piece of Melinda’s work in a room can transform and bring endless conversations. The collector would have a cherished piece that would be talked about for years to come. It is rare to see her work in exhibitions, we ar so tghrilled to have her work in this exhibion.
