Juniper Rag Art & Lifestyle Magazine Disrupting Local Art Scene

July 2, 2021

WORCESTER, MA —

Worcester’s Atelier ID Global, founded by Michelle May and Payal Thiffault, has launched JUNIPER RAG, a visual art and lifestyle magazine that is shaking up the local art scene. Our missions are to showcase exceptional work that shows cultural significance and to expose people to the creative culture that is so vibrant and absolutely essential to our communities.

"In a time of absolute malaise and uncertainty in the arts, triggered by political dissension, foreboding Covid-19, and in the midst of profound social movements around the globe, an arts magazine emerges astoundingly with great promise. The premiere issue of JUNIPER RAG, is a mind-boggling oasis, printed with the highest production values, profiling a vast range of arts and artists. A democratic indication that the art world is as vibrant as ever and thriving,” says Stephen DiRado, Professor of Studio Arts at Clark University.

JUNIPER RAG’s storytelling is focused on compelling and socially relevant art, design and lifestyle topics. The magazine is a visual rest stop that does not waiver on subject matter. An open call for art runs currently until July 17. Feature stories are accepted continually, while there are Calls for Art for the Curation section throughout the year. “We absolutely encourage visual artists searching for next steps in their creative journey to join us as we build this community,” says May.

"JUNIPER RAG is an outstanding offering for artists and audiences, both those in New England and farther afield. Its content and production quality are of the highest standards, and it affords serious artists a great new venue to showcase their work. I strongly encourage those that are eager for career advancement and new audiences to submit. Even the best exhibitions are temporary--but print is forever,” says Juliet Feibel, Executive Director of ArtsWorcester.

JUNIPER RAG gives insight into the artist’s mind and practice, connecting the viewer with the work. All artists want their work to be seen by collectors, gallerists and curators. JUNIPER RAG delivers the goods that illuminate each artist in front of a qualified curator and a discerning audience. Isolation impacted the arts all over the country dramatically this past year and JUNIPER RAG provides artists a permanent and tactile vehicle that does not disappear when the browser is closed.

Christina Roughan of Roughan Home in Greenwich Connecticut and New York City called Juniper Rag “a visual exploration of art, music and design extraordinary in presentation and content, created from the heart.”

In V.1 EMERGENCE”, JUNIPER RAG showcases the work 13 curated artists and 13 featured artists, including Shabnam Jannesari, a painter creating ideal free spaces for censored Iranian women from patriarchal society speaks to us all about countering severe censorship. You will find an intimate photograph of Metallica’s James Hetfield by Billboard award-winning photographer, Rich Gastwirt and textural paintings by philanthropic Indian artist and poet Poppy Charnalia. JUNIPER RAG brings the most interesting feature stories and a qualified curatorial review, so that artists have a chance to be seen and qualified by new and esteemed eyes. The standard of submission approval is very high and each entry supports the magazine and the artists within its pages. You find success as an artist by savagely taking your place at the table, like Lara Alcantara-Lansberg of Brooklyn, whose photographs of irony and humor are timely and brilliant. Take active steps to expand your reach as an artist and submit your work to JUNIPER RAG’s open call for art, closing on July 17.
