DaNice D Marshall is a born writer and a trained telecommunications technician, who climbed telephone poles in the City of Boston.  In 2016, a severe illness called Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis left her with permanent lung damage, hearing loss and unable to walk without a cane.  DaNice, who has no art training, started painting abstracts in 2020, as she puts it, “to watch the paint dry”.  Eventually her paintings evolved to the Narrative Art that we see today.

Her paintings depict the connectedness of people doing everyday activities.  Recently she’s begun the process of converting her work into braille-embossed tactile cards, so that people who are neuro-diverse and those with low vision can access her art, as she believes all people have a right to accessible art, regardless of ability.

DaNice is a 2025 Rare Artist Awardee, who has also won the Andy Warhol Foundation’s Collective Future Funds Award, a MassMOCA Fellowship, a Citation for Visual Arts from the Governor of Massachusetts, Boston’s Faye Chandler Emerging Artist Award and the Biennial Best in Show in Portsmouth, NH.

With several solo exhibitions, DaNice has shown widely and work has sold in Scotland.  Currently, she’s showing at the Toledo Art Museum in OH, the TAG Gallery in Boston SoWa, the Katheryn Schultz Gallery in Cambridge, MA and the Betty Meyers Gallery in Newton, MA.

DaNice’s Public Art includes two billboards in Boston, a mural she designed in Salem, MA and “Somebody Come and Play” an Artful Piano acquired by HCA in Hopkinton, MA in 2025.

DaNice was a featured artist in Artscope magazine and she’s the featured artist in Bryn Marw’s forthcoming “2027 Art Ability” exhibition, where ten of her works will be on view in Malvern, PA.   

DaNice lives with her husband Ben, and their dog Tigger outside of Boston.
