Laat u meeslepen."

Letting the Water Speak

In his current watercolors, Jozef consciously lets the water and the pigment speak for themselves. The water dictates the flow of the pigment. For Jozef, water is like life itself: you can wish for whatever you want, but ultimately it is the current that determines its course; you can only let it happen.

When he paints, there is—apart from the movement of the paper and the application of the pigment —no 'work', no effort. Jozef is fully present then. Nothing more needs to happen; everything is accomplished. Words are superfluous here.

Thus, the water flows where it should not flow. Color combinations with unexpected twists emerge. Only at the very end are the final details applied with a few precise brushstrokes. The result is a strange and fascinating world in which you, as a viewer, are free to interpret what you see. In this way, every work is a new surprise for everyone.
