Kim Collins is a Cambridge-based artist whose Fauvist-inspired paintings celebrate the places where everyday life unfolds. Through bold color, expressive brushwork, and richly layered texture, she transforms familiar diners, neighborhood streets, festivals, and local landmarks into vibrant compositions that evoke warmth, memory, and human connection. Rather than pursuing strict realism, Collins uses color intuitively, allowing emotion and atmosphere to shape each painting while preserving the unique character of the places she depicts.

Collins earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Purchase College and a Master of Science in Printmaking from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her education provided a strong foundation in composition, color theory, and printmaking, influences that continue to inform her approach to painting. The structural awareness developed through printmaking complements her expressive use of paint, creating works that are both energetic and thoughtfully composed.

Her work has been exhibited nationally in juried and invitational exhibitions and is recognized for its contemporary interpretation of Fauvist principles. ARTIST STATEMENT

My paintings are for people who value the places that become part of their own stories. Whether someone recognizes the exact location or simply connects with its atmosphere, my work reflects the way ordinary places become intertwined with memory, community, and identity. Through expressive color, I celebrate the everyday spaces that quietly shape our lives.

My fascination with these places grew from an unexpected afternoon while I was working on a special corporate project. I was the first woman selected for the program, and a coworker and I heard what sounded like a carnival nearby. Curious, we walked over in our company uniforms and crisp khakis, only to discover we had stumbled into the middle of a lively outdoor festival. We immediately panicked, convinced someone from work would see us and decide we didn't belong there. Nothing happened, of course, but the contrast between our corporate world and the carefree atmosphere of the festival stayed with me.

I paint neighborhood diners, festivals, familiar street corners, and local landmarks because they become the backdrop for our routines, relationships, and shared memories. Rather than documenting them as they appear, I use bold color, layered texture, and expressive brushwork to describe a place the way it feels rather than the way it looks. Whether depicting a bustling festival, a neighborhood diner, or a familiar streetscape, my paintings invite viewers to surrender, if only for a moment, to the warmth, spontaneity, and joyful disorientation of a summer afternoon.
