After nearly six years of painting, I feel I am beginning to understand my “why.” I have always sought connection—not the polite chatter of small talk, but the deeper pulse of what makes someone who they are. I want to know what moves you, what shapes your journey, the quiet truths of your life. This longing has brought me the most loyal companions imaginable: my four-legged friends. Often, I find their authenticity more comforting than that of humans. They are fully present, always happy to see me, never dishonest, and our bond is a delicate balance of giving and receiving. And yet, I know they have given me far more than I could ever repay. Painting offers the same intimacy. It is a way to reach beyond the surface, to explore what lies beneath the surface, whether it be a moment in time, a feeling, an experience, beyond the obvious is where my inspiration lies.

As an artist, I am inherently unique, there is only one of me. I work as many others do, from a place of internal dialogue and a desire to transcribe feeling into art. I could liken my work as I would my signature, literally, uniquely my own. So what is unique about my art that sets it apart? It is “me”, my perspective, my willingness to experiment, my curiosities, my collective life experience, my joys, my sadnesses, and my desires.

Angelique Luro

My preferred medium is acrylic, I love the immediacy of the paint, it allows me to work spontaneously as well as, in a more contemplative mode. I incorporate mixed media into my pieces nearly one hundred percent of the time. I thrive on curiosity, constantly working with a what if mindset. My process begins with instinct: a line drawn, a color chosen, a texture built through layering, scraping, or blending. I follow the movement of my hand, allowing the work to grow organically, responding to each mark as it happens. I am drawn to line and texture, to the rhythm they create, to the tension and harmony that emerge when color and form interact. Each piece becomes a reflection of a lived experience, an attempt to translate feeling into form and to create art that resonates on an authentic, human level. Art, for me, is not decoration—it is conversation, witness, and connection. It is a way to see, to feel, and to share the inner landscape of life, allowing both myself and those who encounter the work to engage deeply with what is real and true.
