Jane Cohen, Canterbury, New Hampshire
BIO
BIO Originally from Canada, I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. Started painting murals in high school and have been painting ever since. I was an artist at Hallmark before moving to Boston where I designed books and a lines of cards. Moving to New Hampshire to teach pottery in a small college I discovered long distance running, biking and hiking. The hiking has taken me all around the world. As a full time studio artist living in Canterbury New Hampshire, I appreciate the walk through the woods every day in the four seasons. Nature is my most precious asset and inspiration.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I’ve always been a maker. Being a visual learner I need to see it and make it visible by making nonobjective paintings, prints and collage. Pushing the limits with mixed media, making in the moment work, responding to materials and their properties. Intuitively exploring and making conversations with marks, color, shapes and texture. The work is spontaneous. My mission is to embrace the unexpected.
