BIO
I am a mixed media artist with a background in photography, printmaking, encaustic and collage. For the past 20-plus years, I have studied art and created abstract and figurative works. I have had solo and group shows, participated in Newton Open Studios and won awards for several of my pieces.
Each work I create takes me on a journey into the unknown. My guideposts are nature, color, texture and balance. I begin each piece without a plan, working intuitively until it feels finished. Preferred mediums include acrylics, inks, cold wax and Japanese rice paper.
I live in New England where the ephemeral beauty of the four seasons inspires me daily. A year spent cooking in Paris, France taught me the pleasure of abundance, which shows up in my art through layering and embellishment. A year living in Kyoto, Japan made me appreciate using space as a design element.
My art background includes taking two photography workshops — one at Maine Media in Maine and the other through Nikon in Wyoming. I have studied art at the Danforth Art Museum, DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Maud Morgan Arts, New Art Center, School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and Snow Farm-New England, all in Massachusetts. I also completed Nicholas Wilton’s Creative Visionary Program.
