Alex Megit is a Canadian graphic designer, artist, and marine biologist. He works across collage, branding, and editorial and teaches design (when he's not tearing things apart). He is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I came to collage because I do not draw well. Collage bypasses the need to create my own imagery - I'm better at storytelling than I am at ne needlework. I'm not delicate with my collage. I allow the connections between the shapes, colours, and emotions to emerge on their own. At times, these works cover my space. If something falls apart, I trust that the
composition will emerge again because of an authenticity that I'm learning not to yell over.

Three 'magazine culture' collages built from bad headlines and red paper. I pull apart faces, type, and objects to have a conversation with myself. I stop when it feels honest enough.
