BIO
I am originally from Sweden but came to London many years ago to study art. I have studied at some wonderful art establishments - my BA is from Slade School of Art and years later I obtained a Masters from Chelsea School of Art.
My discipline is predominately sculpture but along my practice, I have consistently made collages.
I always had ‘left over’ materials when making objects and these got incorporated into my mixed media work. The materials I use are often everyday materials – paper, newspaper, wrappers, catalogues, tickets, tissue papers etc. I use these in a combination with wax, varnish and thread for stitching.
The title of the collage is usually taken from the article incorporated in the work or the particular wording in the written material I use.
ARTIST STATEMENT
The way I see life is through details, fragments and imperfections. Everyday stuff - the things I am surrounded by - gets reused, altered and re-ordered to create new stories. Each arrangement forms its on narrative, where structure emerges through placement of parts.
I see them as a hybrid language in the world we live in, a kind of an amalgamation of the quotidian and ethereal.
Articles and news that I read becomes part of the work, where the text sits along the shapes as fragments. I like the way language can hold weight and meaning even when broken or incomplete, just like the forms I am using. The circle appears throughout the work – broken, partial and nearly full – each variation holding its own meaning.
The circle speaks to cycles, to continuity, to the imperfect nature of wholeness. This is a shape that allows space for both repetition and transformation.
