I am primarily a plein air painter, but I began making collages during the winter months to relive the beauty and memory of my summer garden. I create “painted collages'' by layering transparencies from vintage gardening encyclopedias, linocut prints, antique lace, and a wide range of alternative mixed media. My process is improvisational, slowly building the collage surface by cutting, piecing, and layering diverse materials and manipulating varied mark-making. I construct complex works on paper that provide intricate texture, line, and color up close, and form, depth, and space from afar—a rich, year-round experience of the garden.

My collages also take part in the feminist art form of femmage. I reclaim found materials from traditionally “women’s work”—knitting, needlework, gardening, being a mother—and use it for fine art. At thrift stores, yard sales, and flea markets, I rescue discarded artifacts of domestic life: seed catalogs, women’s magazines, table linens, sewing patterns, dresses, handmade sweaters. I give them new life,showing the exquisite textures and craft that women made, felt beautiful in, and created their homes with.

My collages celebrate my experience as a mother and pay homage to women and our journey from the past to the present. They bring beauty, feminism and our threatened environment to the forefront; conceptually expressing the delicate nature of each and its implications of vulnerability within today’s changing world.

Reynolds has shown extensively throughout New England, New York and in Santa Fe in various one person and group shows. She has also won numerous awards, grants and residencies which include a Mass Cultural Council award and attending the Millay Colony, Vermont Studio School and Dorland Mountain Arts Colony. Reynolds earned her MFA from Savannah College of Art & Design, and a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and a BA from Colby College. She is represented by Soprafina Gallery, Boston, MA, Perry Lawson Gallery, Nyack NY, Cynthia Winings Gallery, Blue Hill, ME, and Bryan Memorial Gallery, Stowe, VT. Reynolds presently lives and works in North Brookfield, MA with her husband and three daughters.
