PATTI KELLY | WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS

Patti Kelly is primarily an American romantic abstract artist known for her imaginative, tempestuous landscape paintings. Often borrowing from nature, her choice of colors is inspired by the impermanence of New England's changing seasons. Working in acrylic and watercolor, Kelly builds upon a nebulous surface layered with sensual colors. Using various tools, including palette knives, scrapers and sticks, her gestural work presents to the viewer an emotionally charged imaginary world.

In these dark landscapes, the words of Edgar Allan Poe kept swirling around in my Thoughts as I dreamed of far away places. I was quite taken with his poem,

A Dream Within a Dream

"Yet, if hope has flow away In a night, or in a day, n a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? -EAP

Worcester-based abstract artist Patti Kelly teaches painting nationwide and brings an atmospheric depth to DELIRIUM with her moody interpretations of her own backyard. Patti's paintings balance free, intuitive movement with such deliberate mark-making, and scraping that creates a rhythm that feels both emotional and elemental. In her work, Patti has a keen sense of light and shadow and how they support and breathe together-revealing the mystery, sometimes with drama that lives in familiar spaces. The majority of her work feels like landscapes, but they are so open to interpretation, each a symphony of color and free line work. —Juniper Rag
