TINA DOBBERPUHL | HUDSON, MASSACHUSETTS
Tina Dobberpuhl is a fine art photographer based in Hudson, Massachusetts. Visual storytelling is one of Tina's favorite ways to express her creativity. Her influences come from a variety of sources including film, advertisements and her imagination. Focusing on the intricate elements of a scene or subject, her portfolio includes abstract photographs of texture including paint, wood, rust, stone and bark, studies of water in the form of ice, bubbles and waterfalls, various flora and other natural and manmade surfaces illustrating that beauty is often found in the details. Subjects of urban decay are featured prominently in her work. Abandoned buildings, stone ruins and old machinery are photographed to capture their timeless details.
Wabi-sabi is a Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection, and Tina's work illustrates that concept wonderfully. The theme she is always drawn back to could be described as "creative storytelling with a slightly eerie, dark, mysterious vibe". She loves adding a moody atmosphere to a scene that serves to guide the viewer into the story, where they can customize the narrative using their own imagination asking themselves the important questions - "why?", "how?", "what comes next?", and "what happened in the moment before this moment in time?". Tina's award-winning work has been featured in several exhibitions, most recently at Lost Shoe Brewery and the Aldrich Heritage Gallery. Her photographs have received multiple judge's choice, creativity and image of the year awards in competitions.
Tina has altered how she interprets the question "You have a dark side, don't you?". She now considers it a compliment, a validation of the work she has put so much thought, time and effort into creating. It makes her happy, proud and encouraged as she continues making more fine art photographs with a subtle - or sometimes blatant - nod toward darkness, wonder and fantasy.
“My first experience with light painting... amazed by how differently light can come through the darkness.”
