Kelli Nyman’s folded paper works are a masterclass in restraint, rhythm and quiet beauty. Using one of the most ordinary materials imaginable, she transforms paper into luminous sculptural compositions that feel both architectural and reflections of nature. Every pleat, fold and gesture carries intention, creating pieces that radiate calm while still holding movement and energy within them. Her muted monochromatic palettes lend the work a timeless sophistication that effortlessly elevates contemporary interiors.

What makes Kelli’s work especially compelling is the emotional honesty behind it. Rooted in her experience growing up surrounded by clutter and chaos, these works become acts of restoration — transforming a material often associated with excess into spaces of openness, clarity and balance. There is something profoundly meditative about the repetition in her process and as we view we feel that sense of stillness when looking at her work. They invite a calmness, reflection and a quieter way of seeing.

The dimensional nature of Kelli’s pieces means they continually evolve throughout the day, responding to shifting light, shadows and perspective. Elegant yet deeply tactile, her sculptural pieces create an atmosphere as much as an object. They are ideal for collectors who value minimalism with soul — artwork that brings serenity, sophistication, and meaningful presence into a space.

STATEMENT/BIO

Statement:

I have a deep interest in how our physical environment affects both how we feel about ourselves and how we connect with others.  I discovered that I could create calm and balance for myself internally by bringing order and openness to my external surroundings.  I learned this skill through my experience growing up in a house filled with lots of clutter.  The chaotic energy that this created, at times, became a source of anxiety, shame, and isolation.

So, in my work, I use paper, a material often associated with clutter, to create minimalist, sculptural paintings that transform the paper into structured, yet delicate forms intentionally arranged in abstract compositions softened by muted, monochromatic palettes. I use a lot of repetitive folded and pleated patterns but also intuitive and gestural shapes to create work that is both meditative and also full of movement.

The dimensional qualities mean that the work is something to be experienced spatially (within the space where it is) and interactively - influenced by the lighting, time of day, and position of the viewer. The openness and simplicity of the work is meant to give space for internal clarity and for connectivity within ourselves and others.
