Olivia Hoagland was born and raised in North Carolina, graduating with her bachelors degree in Art and Visual Culture from Appalachian State University in 2024. Now living in Massachusetts and attending Boston University, she studies how communities are woven through creative practice and a passion for the arts. With a drive for curation, public programming, and fundraising, Olivia hopes to continue her career in art administration in the New England area.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The medium of alcohol inks on Yupo paper produces unique and vibrant results. I first learned to paint in Abington, Virginia when I was a child, simply having fun with the inks. The imagery I strive to create today experiments with color theory and the interaction between the inks. This process allows viewers to bring forth their own perspective and emotional journey when interpreting my work. I experiment with different hues, textures, and patterns by manipulating how the ink moves on the fast drying, non absorbent material and use the medium to express my journey of healing and finding a calm moment in the storm.
